Brussels is a beautiful and historic city. With so much to do in and around the town, you need a good base of operations. Here are two of the places we’ve stayed in Brussels.
Brussels Marriott Hotel Grand Place
The Brussels Marriott Hotel Grand Place is located a few blocks away from the Grand Place. When traveling to Brussels, the Grand Place should be one of the very first places you visit. It’s amazing. You can read all about it in our Brussels Attractions post.
Because of all our travel, I’m a lifetime member of Marriott, so it’s always nice to see a friendly face in a new city. The Brussels Marriott Hotel Grand Place has a nice executive lounge that has continental breakfast, snacks during the day and some snacks and drinks in the evening.
The hotel has a very nice dining room with an excellent breakfast. If you’re a Marriott premium member, it’s complimentary. If not, try to include it in your room rate. It’s a great way to start your day and you may not need lunch. The restaurant is known for its steaks, so lunch or dinner here is a great option.
The rooms are large, but there was only one sink in the bathroom. It was a little crowded but manageable. Because the Brussels Marriott Hotel Grand Place is in the middle of the city and close to the Grand Place, there was plenty of revelers and police sirens throughout the night. I don’t think any hotel can improve this. Luckily, we were so tired after seeing the sights, we slept through most of it.
I recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to be in the heart of Brussels and near the Grand-Place. Not only is that location historic and a photographer’s delight. Plenty of restaurants are nearby. We ate in this area nearly every night, and then it was only a short walk back to the hotel.
The staff were pleasant, professional and helpful.
Sheraton Brussels Airport Hotel
The Sheraton Brussels Airport Hotel (a Marriott) is convenient if you are only in Brussels for a brief period. The hotel has easy access into the city by rail, and you easily can get to the Grand Place after you reach the city center.
We stayed here arriving and leaving Europe during a five-week tour of Europe. The hotel advertises that it’s 39 steps from the Brussels airport. We didn’t count the steps but felt it more than 39. But it is very convenient, and signs pointed us in the right direction. Checking in and out were a breeze.
We enjoyed our stay and found it to be much quieter than the Brussels Marriott Hotel Grand Place in the city. That was surprising considering all the air traffic. But most of the flights were done after ten o’clock at night. The hotel boasts soundproofed rooms and windows.
The Sheraton Brussels Airport Hotel provides a nice lounge that you can access with either your Marriott status or by including it in your reservation. We found the lounge to be very convenient with many choices for evening snacks and beverages. Breakfast was good in the lounge as well.
The main restaurant is larger and offers more options. It’s also a great place to get some food during your stay.
For an overnight stay near the Brussels Airport, the Sheraton Brussels Airport Hotel is a convenient and relaxing hotel. Although we think of it as a layover hotel, we met a guest who had stayed at the hotel for several weeks. He still enjoyed the service and the stay. This hotel has something for everyone.
