Have you made Uruguay a destination vacation yet? We did and we are glad that we did. We stayed in Montevideo and also Carmelo. I’ll show you some restaurants in those two cities and a few others in Punta del Este and Colonia del Sacramento. Let’s start with Carmelo.

What about Uruguay for a South American vacation? Uruguay probably doesn’t jump out at you as the typical destination location. Perhaps that’s because you haven’t heard much about it yet. Are you a tourist or a traveler? Many tourists want someone to guide them every day. I like organized tours but I like to choose when I want them and for how long. The name “Maipu” comes from the Mapuche language, an indigenous language spoken in southern Chile and Argentina. It means “place of the Chiefs” or “place where the Chiefs meet.”

You need to keep your stamina up when you are a traveler. If you like wine and beef, you will love Mendoza. If you are planning vacations, Mendoza should be one of your destinations.
If you are looking for a destination vacation, we would highly recommend Mendoza in Argentina. We have lots of posts about this area because we enjoyed doing wine tasting tours and savoring the wonderful food. I’ve talked before about the difference between a tourist and a traveler. This would be a good traveler destination. You don’t want a tour to point at Mendoza from a bus and tell you that it’s a good place for wine. For us, it’s a chance to get to a hotel and experience the area and get to know the wines, the people, the climate and the beauty.
