Having visited Fiji as a tourist, and then lived there for a few years, we offer a unique look at the hotels and restaurants in this little piece of heaven.
Hard Rock Café Fiji
Didn't expect this in Fiji
Unlike Tokyo and other major international cities, you won’t find many American restaurants and stores in Fiji. I think there’s one McDonald’s restaurant in all of Fiji, near Nadi.
So, we were surprised to find a Hard Rock Café on Denaru Island. The food is what you'd expect in any other Hard Rock Café. And you can dine indoors or outside. The friendly staff gives great customer service. The restaurant offers a gift shop where you can buy your Hard Rock Fiji T-shirt or coffee mug. Fiji has many terrific restaurants.
Approximately half the population is of Indian descent, so delicious Indian restaurants abound. And there are many Chinese places. But sometimes, you want an everyday American hamburger. While traveling abroad, there are times when we want familiar comfort food. For those times, the Hard Rock Café is the place.
Tanoa International Hotel
Much better than an airport hotel
We frequently have stayed at this hotel when in Fiji. The Tanoa International Hotel provides reliable internet coverage, a well-stocked casual bar, a pizza oven and full-service restaurant.
The large hotel offers many rooms. You’ll likely walk a while to get to your room. But you’re in Fiji; you won’t be in a hurry! We found the courteous desk staff gave knowledgeable information about local attractions. A tour desk in the lobby gave more ideas. The Tanoa also offers Fijian live traditional music and authentic kava ceremonies.
Over the years, the Tanoa regularly upgraded its rooms. We felt the accommodations were well-appointed comfortable and fairly priced.
