It was nice but it was limiting when you are staying for months at a time. I remember when I ordered pizza to be delivered to the hotel and the hotel told the driver to go away. I guess I wasn’t supposed to have pizza delivered because it was a nice hotel.
If you are coming to Osaka as a destination location, you might want to try a guided tour of the nightlife in the area. Osaka is very safe and you could definitely work your way around to places where your native language is understood. However, we wanted to experience it as a real local. We wanted a tour where the Japanese hang out.

The deer in Nara are considered sacred and are designated as natural treasures of Japan. Visitors can feed and interact with these friendly deer.

From Osaka, we took the JR train to Kanazawa, Fukuoka, Kobe and Nara. We purchased a JR pass in order to save money on travel and use the Shinkansen bullet train as often as possible.

We wanted to see as many UNESCO world heritage sites as we could. I had already booked a tour the following day for a bus tour that went to both Kyoto and Nara, but we realized that we’d only see a few things. We were staying at the Hyatt Regency Osaka which was a great base for us. The bus tour promised a visit to Kinkaku-ji temple in Kyoto and Todaiji temple in Nara. That was only two of the 17 listed places. So, we found a private driver for a day on Viator. We wanted to fill in as many gaps as we could.
UNESCO is probably best known for designating World Heritage Sites, cultural and natural sites that show “outstanding universal value”. There are currently 22 world heritage sites in Japan, 18 cultural ones and 4 natural ones. There are 17 UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Kyoto alone. We wanted to maximize our Kyoto tour with a private tour.
