Thailand Restaurants

If you’ve made Thailand one of your vacation destinations, you’ll probably want to do some research on food.  We have you covered.

If you want to eat well in Thailand, you can go to plenty of night food market locations in many of the cities. The food is great, but you might want to bring along someone who can speak Thai with you. For this post, I’ll tell you about sit-down restaurants that we’ve enjoyed.

Bangkok

Spasso Restaurant at Grand Hyatt Erawan – Bangkok

Spasso Entrance Grand Hyatt Erawan Bangkok Thailand

We made reservations for this restaurant because we had heard it was quite popular. It’s within the Grand Hyatt Erawan and it’s tucked at the LL level. We knew that it had dancing and entertainment nightly from 10:30PM to 2:00AM so we wanted to come a bit earlier because we were not sure we could stay up that late being jet lagged in general.

The food was wonderful with handmade pasta and wonderful salads. We had different salads and then different pastas. We shared dessert (molten lava cake with cherries) and a bottle of lovely Sicilian wine.

This is an extremely nice restaurant within a hotel. Service was excellent, and we never had to leave the hotel to get an excellent meal. We loved this restaurant and the hotel and will definitely come back to both.

Burgers & Beer – Bangkok

Burgers and Beer Bangkok Mall Thailand

This is a restaurant in a mall, and we initially did not have high expectations. However, the menu is much broader than simply burgers and beer.

We settled for a cheeseburger and fries, and it was tasty. Tiger beer is always a good accompaniment to a burger. Service was friendly and prompt.

You’ve probably been to restaurants where they will wheel your Caesar salad in your vicinity and prepare it tableside. This is similar, but they will prepare quite a wide variety of dishes near your table. It is as if the kitchen comes to you.

In reality, this is a very nice restaurant and yes, they have table preparation and grilling of many items. However, you should come to this restaurant for the service and the taste. We enjoyed the personalized service and the attention to detail. The menu is quite varied, and you can choose from many diverse items.

Dessert is also something that can be done near you so you can splurge and enjoy a very nice dessert prepared for you. If you are staying at the Grand Hyatt, this is such a nice restaurant and so easy.  If you are not staying at the Grand Hyatt, it’s not that far away from many hotels.

Embassy Room – Bangkok

Embassy Room Park Hyatt Bangkok

This restaurant is in the Park Hyatt hotel in Bangkok.  We had breakfast here after a long flight that had us arriving late at the hotel. The breakfast is unique. There are many stations for breakfast, and they will all customize breakfast to your satisfaction. We had a barista that made a memorable latte, a crepe maker supreme and many other chefs and staff making unique dishes. There is a large buffet, so you can easily sample what you want but they also offer prepared dishes that are unique and that they will bring to the table.  Even the crepe I asked for was hand delivered to the table. I asked for a Madeline (a type of French cookie), and he asked if I wanted it warmed up before serving.

From the restaurant you can dine indoors in air-conditioned comfort or al fresco and look at the infinity pool or the skyline of the city. This is a fabulous place for breakfast.

Phuket

Sunset Grill – Phuket

Hyatt Regency Phuket Resort Sunset-Grill-Restaurant

This is not the Don Henley song and you’re not in California.  This is part of the Hyatt Regency in Phuket.  However, I had the tune in my head as we entered the restaurant for the first time. We were guests of the hotel and could easily walk to the restaurant. You can also take a “buggy” which is the resort’s name for a golf cart and a driver will drop you off.

There is a happy hour which I think is more like 2 hours where you can get 2-for-1 drinks. We arrived early enough to see the sunset (thus the name of the grill) and enjoyed ourselves through a multi-course dinner served ala carte. Service was excellent with the staff always available. The food was excellent.

Prices at this restaurant are certainly higher than what you can get in town, but you are comparing apples and tomatoes.   You can certainly find less expensive meals anywhere in Phuket. However, this restaurant has a beautiful view, impeccable service and delicious food. I think you do get what you pay for here.  We would come back.

Hua Hin

Figs Restaurant – Hua Hin

Figs Restaurant Hyatt Regency Hua Hin

This restaurant is part of the Hyatt Regency in Hua Hin.  They have a lovely buffet breakfast every morning at this restaurant. During the evening, it becomes a charming Italian restaurant with pasta, pizza and many other excellent choices. You can eat outdoors and watch the stars at night or inside and smell the food prepared while you watch the cooks. There is a lot of skill in this kitchen, so you will not be disappointed.  If you are staying at another property in Hua Hin, this restaurant is worth your trip.

Talay Thai Restaurant & Bar

Talay Thai Restaurant Hyatt Regency Hua Hin Thailand Entrance

This restaurant is part of the Hyatt Regency in Hua Hin.  We enjoyed the wide variety of Thai dishes in this restaurant.

There is much more to Thai cooking than simply Pad Thai. This restaurant allows you to enjoy morning glory, fresh grilled fish, excellent noodle dishes and curries. Service is very good. Have some Tiger beer with your meal.

McFarland House – Hua Hin

McFarland House Hyatt Regency Hua Hin Thailand Exterior

This restaurant is located in the Hyatt Regency in Hua Hin.  You can come to this restaurant for lunch or dinner. We had dinner several times, but the two special dinners were the steak dinner and the romance dinner. Both require reservations. The steak dinner includes a glass of wine. The romance dinner has multiple courses and they set a table for you and your special one on the beach. A bottle of wine is included for each couple.

If you simply come for dinner, steak is not on the menu and what you are offered is similar to what you can get at Talay Thai. So, I would suggest making a special reservation for one of the specials if it suits your palate.  Both the romance and steak dinner are very nice.

Andreas Italian Restaurant & Grill – Hua Hin

Trattoria By Andreas Hua Hin Thailand

The restaurant has been rebranded as Trattoria by Andreas now. This is a very nice restaurant and reservations are highly recommended. The menu is decidedly Italian in focus, but they offer many things besides pasta. There is a very nice wine list, and the attentiveness of the servers is excellent. Your water glass will receive constant attention. We enjoyed indoor dining with air conditioning but there is also al fresco dining available. The server has an iPad, so you can see some of the dishes as they would be served. The food was freshly prepared, and you’ll love the taste since there is serious skill in the kitchen.

Oceanside Beach Club & Restaurant

Oceanside Restaurant Hyatt Regency Hua Hin Thailand Tables and the sea

We enjoyed dinner here and sampled a nice variety of dishes. The whole restaurant is open to the sea with overhead fans providing some relief from heat and humidity. The food was excellent, and the service was professional and prompt. If you go, you might want to get there early enough to see the sunset while sipping your beverage.

Hopefully we’ve given you plenty to think about. Madeline and I are making an Italian Cheese Pie for brunch and talking about the wonderful restaurants in Hua Hin has given us a great appetite. Bon Appetit.
